Do you have any comfort ties ?

Comfort Ties: The Ones I Could Do in My Sleep..

You may have some of those ties.

The ones your hands remember before your brain does.
The patterns that just click.
The ties you come back to when you want to feel grounded, confident, and connected.

I’m always aspiring to learn new patterns and expand my rope vocabulary as a student, but there’s something really special about comfort ties. They’re familiar. They’re reliable. They’re the ties you reach for when you want to focus less on “what comes next” and more on being present in the moment.

These are a few of mine.

Futomomo (Thigh Ties)

If I had a rope love language, Futomomo might be it. Clean and endlessly satisfying. There’s something about the rhythm of wrapping a thigh tie that feels right to me. They’re supportive, versatile, and always feel like coming home. My hands know exactly where to go, and my brain gets to take a little break. I also like that they are suspendible!

Cuffs/Arm Binds

Cuffs and arm binds of all kinds make my model feel safe. They’re playful. They’re expressive. They feel collaborative and fun, whether I’m keeping things simple or adding small details. I love how much personality can come through in something that seems so straightforward. Plus, they’re a great reminder that rope doesn’t always have to be complicated to be meaningful.

Karada

A classic for a reason. Karada is one of those patterns that feels like a foundation piece in my rope journey. When I tie it ( and tie in on myself) I feel centered. It’s structured, familiar, and leaves plenty of room to connect, breathe, and be intentional. I also like to practice it the most in the mornings or on the days I plan to tie for practice/or for a scene, to warm up my fingers.

Honorable Mention: Takatekote

Listen. I am absolutely PTSD’d into remembering my TK3 ( in the best way lol) thanks to cell class. It challenged me in ways I did not expect and refused to let me forget a single step. Was it stressful at the time? Yes. Do I remember it forever now? Also yes. Sometimes the hardest ties end up being the ones etched deepest into your muscle memory.

Comfort ties aren’t about staying stagnant. They’re about having a home base. A place to return to while you grow, learn, and challenge yourself. They’re proof that repetition builds confidence, and confidence creates space for connection.

What are some of yours?

I have a feeling this list will keep growing 💗

Shibari is about connection.
